In the season-opening leg Nakuru rally, won by Baldev and the second leg of the nine-leg series, the Equator Rally in Nanyuki, Aakif did not finish and this missed out on points.
He, however, picked points in five consecutive events beginning with the Safari Rally which was making a return to the World Rally Championship (WRC), through to his win in Nanyuki. He was disqualified in Thika Rally and did not finish in the last leg of the series, the Guru Nanak Rally.
