Skoda Fabia-R5 driver Aakif Virani, was on Saturday 15 January named Motorsport personality of the year in a gala awards ceremony held at Kenya Motorsport offices at Kasarani Stadium.

Aakif sealed the Kenya National Rally Championship (KNRC) Division one Championship with two legs to go and also bagged his maiden career victory in Nanyuki following the disqualification of Carl Tundo, Baldev Charger and Jasmeet Chana.

In the season-opening leg Nakuru rally, won by Baldev and the second leg of the nine-leg series, the Equator Rally in Nanyuki, Aakif did not finish and this missed out on points.
